The book
A Yazidi Şêx writes down the rules and traditions of his people as he received them. The Kurmanji text and its French translation face each other, page by page.
H’esenê Şêx K’eleşê (Hesen Hesenyan, 1943–2018) recorded in this book the rules and traditions of the Yazidi people as he had learned them from his father, Şêx K’eleşê, from his brother and from several other Şêx, who held them in turn from their Seyda. The text is dated “Year 1995, village of Şamîran”.
The author quotes prayers and stanzas of religious hymns, qewl and beyt.
This edition gives, page by page, the Kurmanji text transliterated into the Latin alphabet with its French translation opposite; each page refers to the corresponding page of the Cyrillic original.

About this edition
Each page of Kurmanji text has its French translation on the opposite page. A discreet header, “source page N”, refers to the page of the Cyrillic original.
The table of the Yazidi alphabet (p. 10) is not the author’s work: the publisher drew it up as a reading aid, based on the Unicode Standard (Yezidi block, 2020) and the encoding proposal by Rovenchak, Pirbari and Karaca (2019). The note opposite (p. 11) presents the script and cites its sources.

Who sells this book?
The Union des Yézidis de France (Yekîtiya Êzdiyên Fransayê) is a non-profit association under the French law of 1901. Its aims include preserving and passing on the memory and the cultural, historical, linguistic and spiritual identity of the Yazidi people, and publishing and distributing works that serve these aims.
This book is its first publication. In France there is no middleman and no reseller: the association publishes the book, sells it and ships it itself. Once printing and postage are paid, the income funds its work.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to read Kurmanji?
No — but you need to read French: the whole French translation faces the Kurmanji text, page by page. There is no English translation.
When can I buy it?
As soon as the association has received its registration receipt, opened its bank account and received the printed books. No pre-orders are taken and nothing is charged until then. To be notified, write to us.
Is delivery free?
No, never on this website. In France the law forbids free delivery of new books; below €35 the delivery charge is at least €3. Our rates match the real cost of shipping: €4.99 to a pickup point in France for 1 or 2 books, for example. The rule protects independent bookshops. On Amazon, Amazon’s own delivery charges apply.
Do you ship outside France?
This website delivers to mainland France only. For other countries, the book will be offered on Amazon, printed and delivered by Amazon: see Outside France: on Amazon. It is not on sale there yet. For a country Amazon does not serve, write to us. Yes, once it is printed. It will be sold at the same price, €20, and you take it home straight away, with no postage.
